A Top Spinning Out of Control

There are a lot of moments when I feel like I’m spinning out of control – not my words, but a very accurate description of who I am. There are a lot of different types of law I’m interested in, and there are many different avenues I want to explore.

Today was the last day of my judicial internship, and now I have a month before I start school. Usually when I’m at an internship, I look forward to it being over so I can sleep in, see my friends, and just waste time. This is the first time I’ve interned somewhere and I’ve actually loved every day of it. There was one day when I didn’t go to the physical courthouse, and instead of sleeping in and relaxing, I got ready for work and video chatted in to hear what I missed and virtually be there! I would have never done that for any other position I’ve had.

I’ve learned more these 6 weeks than I’ve learned in any other experience that I’ve had. Even though every internship/job has taught me something new, there are things that I’ve learned this summer that have changed my entire way of thinking. Secrets that I will actually keep guarded, but lessons that I’ll never forget.

There’s that joke going around that “January 2020” me is very different from “July 2020” me, and even though the post was in relation to Covid-19, I can say the amount of growth from January to July was exponential, and all I can do is to keep working my hardest and continue that growth. I hope that I can work hard to help other people who look like me get the same opportunities I did. I’m the first person in my family to be a lawyer, and before law school, I didn’t personally know any lawyers. Now I have less than a year to go, but there is still a lot I want to learn, and many more experiences I want to have.

Maybe I’m still a top spinning a little out of control, but there is at least some stability in it. My life post-graduation may not be figured out, but there is more clarity and thoughtfulness in my actions and path.

Thank you Judge Williams for an incredible summer and experience!!

There are so many more things that I could say, but because brevity is key, I’ll stop here!

For the rest of you reading this, remember when I said that I would be blogging so much more because we are all quarantined and there’s nothing else to do? Yeah… sorry about dropping the ball on that. But hopefully soon? Let’s see.

Until next time – Happy last day of July and I hope you’re all staying safe and well.
