Today I went to my first happy hour with my favorite person in the world.. and those of you who follow my blog will know that it’s Katie 🙂 Today was the first time that I actually took advantage of the fact that I was 21. And I have to admit, we were much smoother/cool about it than I thought we would have been

After a few recommendations, we finally decided to go to La Paladar.. thank you Beth for the suggestion 🙂

Their happy hour is every day from 4-7, and we went at the perfect time of 5:15. It was empty enough that we could easily find a place to sit at the bar, but still crowded enough that we weren’t the only lonesome two in the place. I ordered the Yucca Fries with dipping sauce and a Tropical Mango White Sangria, which was the perfect combination to get me out of the gloomy mood that the rain was putting me in.

Katie got Portobello + Queso Blanco Empanadas and a Cucumber Basil Gin Smash. Now I’m not a fan of mushrooms at all, even though, Mushroom fun fact: Eating 5 mushrooms a week reduces your chances of getting breast cancer, but these empanadas were really good.

Overall the experience was nice. It was nice sitting at a bar and just catching up; it felt very adult like. After about halfway down the glass, everything started becoming really funny.. so there’s that.

We even both said the iconic words.

Me: Wow it’s so cool the way they make drinks (seriously, idk if it was the alcohol, but the way that they poured everything together and the way they salted the rims of the glasses, and how they knew exactly how much of each drink to put to make it taste great, #mindblown)

Katie: YEAH Seriously

Me: WE SHOULD BUY A BAR

Katie: Shut up you’re not Ted, or Barney (#HIMYM)

So after I got over the fact that I’d probably be a terrible bartender anyway (sike nah I won’t, I’d be great. Just wait and see) we paid our tab and took a walk outside.

Luckily it had stopped raining and it was a nice Saturday overall. Plus the Starbucks across the street was calling my name…

So in conclusion: I like Sangrias. I like white wine, mango rum, and peach schnapps. But at the end of the day, I still think I would take a cup of coffee over an alcoholic drink.

Now, I don’t know if I’m supposed to mix alcohol and coffee.. but, well, I’m feeling fine, and I’m 99% sure I’m talking in English in this post, so I think I’m alright 😉
