My friend’s dad believes a lot in fate and the universe, and I, for one, do too.
Essentially, it’s that if you really want something, then the universe will give it to you.
One my favorite Bollywood movies (Om Shanti Om for those that are interested) has the following quote: “There’s a saying that: if you really desire something … then the whole universe will work towards giving it to you”
Even Paolo Coelho of The Alchemist stated a similar quote: When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
Think about this quote for a second, and think a lot about what you truly desire in the world. I’m not saying “getting an A on the next test” or “Finding those shoes in your size,” but long-term goals and dreams that you have.
Maybe you want to live in a nice small house in suburban New York, or maybe it’s your life long dream to become a successful neurosurgeon.. whatever it is that you really want, the universe will help you get it.
My suggestion is, create a vision board of the life of your dreams!
So what exactly is a vision board? There’s a great email I received today from a very inspirational entrepreneur, Melanie Duncans, who was explaining how she uses vision boards for her business.
To summarize, a vision board is a collection of images, objects, words, and ideas that excite and inspire you!
The power of the vision board is it should help you visualize what you want your life to look like, the person you need to become to create that success, and essentially, what you want to do, have, or be in your life.
Why does this work? I believe it’s psychological. When you have so many reminders pushing you to be the best person you can be, you subconsciously make decisions and engage in activities that allow that to happen. It’s both an extrinsic and intrinsic motivator.
Now you may be asking, “Sandhya, that’s all fine and dandy, but how do I make a vision board?”
GLAD YOU ASKED!
For me, it’s my pinterest, my tumblr, and my motivation wall, because my pinterest is my dream wedding in [insert an exotic place here, shoutout to my yacht in Dubai idea], and my tumblr is the luxurious clothes, nice cars, beautiful home, and loving quotes and inspirational sayings embodying my entire life. Lastly is my motivation wall at home, which has hundreds of multi-colored sticky notes with motivational quotes and inspring pictures about friendship and happiness to get me through the hard times.
But vision boards don’t have to be virtual, they can be cork boards, poster paper, or a journal where you make things happen.
I know that some people prefer to be more grounded than others, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t daydream or explore all of your options.
The truth is, we all deserve the best life that we can have, so we should work towards it 🙂
