Valentine’s Weekend 2021

It’s almost February 14, which means, of course, the iconic “Valentines Day post!” This will be the first year I’m actually not posting on actual Valentines day, but since it’s an actual Valentine’s weekend, I wanted to post in time for your Galentine’s and Valentine’s Plans.

“Celebrating,” if that’s what you want to call it, is interesting for someone who has a love-hate relationship with valentine’s day. This is the fourth of my Valentine’s Day Series: See 2016, 2019, and 2020.

So listen, let’s call a spade a spade, this holiday is not fun. Galentine’s Day is great, absolutely love it, but Valentine’s Day??? Not so much. Whether you have a valentine or not, this holiday is too much pressure. At least this year I have Covid as an excuse to stay home and not interact with anyone in public. Though actually this year, I get to have two covid-safe Galentine’s Day celebrations again, so I’m definitely looking forward to that 🙂

Not going to lie though, the last two years were fun! 2019 I had two galentine’s day dinners with my friends in Philly and at home, and then flew to Oklahoma to celebrate with my extended family. Then in 2020, I visited my friends in Philly, drank lots of coffee, ranted about law school, had a nice dinner and drinks and went on nice walks, and attended a proposal party(!!) Both years my tradition has stayed the same, and this year it will too, with a slight modification!

What am I going to do?

So for those of you who have been following me for a while, you know what my tradition is: chocolate strawberries, drink of choice, and a romcom. This year my romcom is going to be the third installment of “To All The Boys I Loved Before: Always and Forever.” The trailer song has been stuck in my head for three weeks. Though I think now that Taylor’s Version of Love Story came out, I will likely be alternating between them both.

So if I’ve learned anything in quarantine, it’s that self love doesn’t always have to be lighting a candle and taking a bubble bath; it can really be anything that makes you happy, no matter how strangely specific it is to your likes. Last year I told myself that instead of sitting in sweatpants, I’ll wear one of my favorite outfits – but I did end up wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt… so this year I think I’ll wear a fancy shirt and jeans probably? I’ll be making chocolate covered strawberries tonight and celebrating the first of my two galentine’s celebrations 🙂 This year I will also be unplugging the whole weekend; I’ve managed to do enough work these past few days that I don’t have to do any work this weekend if I don’t want to, but still have the option to get ahead too, and I think that’ll be my self-care this weekend! And finger’s crossed that I have a hot chocolate party, with the extra marshmallows and the peppermint. Even though I’m looking forward to spring, I think I should enjoy Winter a little more 🙂

Whether you’re celebrating alone or with someone special (friends or otherwise), I hope you all have a great weekend 🙂 And to all those celebrating, a very Happy Lunar New Year 🙂

Let me know what your valentine’s and galentine’s traditions are 🙂

Until next time! 🙂
