Hellllloooo cuties!
I am super late in this year’s Valentine’s Day Post – remember when I said I would post it on Friday? Yeah, whoops.
So right now it is 9pm on vday – and it’s once again time to talk about my deep seeded mixed feelings about this holiday. Like ugh, the commercialization of human relationships, but also, everything is heart shaped?? Soo…
For those of you who have read my other Valentine’s Day Posts, you know that I like to focus on self-care and self-love on Valentine’s Day: making and eating chocolate covered strawberries, watching a romcom in bed, listening to nice music, taking a nice bubble bath, wearing some nice and cute outfit, and just generally soaking in the good-vibes.
Although I’m very much a creature of habit, see 2016, 2019, 2020, and 2021, this year I really abandoned the regular traditions.
Galentines: I did get to have a really cute brunch date in this adorable cafe in Delaware with my good friend from law school, and on Sunday night, I made matcha and met two of my friends for a car + coffee venting session.
But self-love looked different this year!
Valentine’s Day: I completely forgot to make chocolate covered strawberries! I make them literally every year and this year I just completely forgot. I guess some of the other traditions were still there – I am currently eating chocolate out of a heart shaped box, I did listen to my favorite music (cue: message in a bottle and my kind), and I actually did end up decorating a cake on Saturday (read: really badly!)
Today morning, my judge, judicial assistant, and I had a nice Chambers breakfast with virgin mimosas, eggs, waffles, and bacon :’) And tomorrow we’re getting doughnuts!!
I think self-care and self-love looks a lot different depending on what your mood is and how you’re doing – it could be as simple as not responding to people or not checking Instagram (which is me right now!) or it could be going on a date with yourself, or it could be ordering in a decadent 3 course meal and creating a whole affair and really taking care of yourself.
But lately, I’ve been really into self compassion.
I really think the best way to care and love yourself is to become that favorite version of yourself and just do what makes you happy!! Whatever that may be.
Today can be a really difficult day, so give yourself grace and give yourself time, and do what’s best for you 🙂 I think tonight I’ll journal for a bit, update my gratitude journal, and then sleep early!
If you have any galentines or valentines day traditions or rituals that you did this year, definitely let me know!!
Until next time!
